May the souls of the martyrs rest in peace. It is beyond awful, but if you must die, doing so at Mass as a martyr and then going swiftly to the Beatific Vision is not a bad way for a Catholic to go. May the authorities hunt down the murderers swiftly so they may not murder again.

And that’s the trouble, there’ll usually be those small percentage that strictly adhere, and the rest will either not condemn or follow.

Over the centuries, there have been opportunities to at least bring the worst parts of Islam to heel. These opportunities were missed because of lack of Christian unity, failure to complete a task once started, and naive beliefs that Islam’s worst parts would evolve into civilized behavior much the same as Christianity no longer burning witches. Such attitudes and failures have cost the lives of millions and will continue to do so as long as their predations are allowed continue.
David your comparison doesn’t work because Nazi ideology was not a religion which claimed to do things in the name of a god which earned them a reward in the after life.
There is a heretical component to Islam that transcends politics which makes it incompatible with Christianity and a free and functioning civilisation. The only way Islam works is through an authoritarian rule which is why Arab Muslim countries rule their people with an iron fist.
A “good Muslim” is good in spite of Islam not because of it.
My grandmother grew up with Muslims in her village which were like family to her. When the Muslim revolution occurred, they began to wrap, stopped drinking alcohol and grew beards and treated their Christian neighbours with suspicion and distance.
Muslims dont respect non-Muslims and in particular Christians. My husband has employed Muslims in the past- he refuses to now. He doesn’t trust them (even the ones which appear decent). Any act against a non-Muslim (even minor ones) is considered good because their religion tells them it’s good. They get rewarded. I know It’s not PC but it’s what he learnt through his experience with them. The only Muslim you can truly trust is one that has renounced Islam.

Not all Germans were Nazis, of course, and many of them opposed or at least did not embrace Nazi policies. Most Muslims do not oppose Islamic policies, and way too many embrace its rubbish starting with the absurd claim that Muhammad (if he ever really existed more than just a tribal leader) is considered the ideal human for all Muslims (regardless of their peaceful or warlike inclinations) to emulate, including his atrocities against humanity.

Persons attending Mass say the Confetior, a public admission of sin and repentance. With Mary what a person intends is already accomplished.
The bombing occurred in an area where attacks on Christians are not uncommon. Under that circumstance I assume the participants in the Mass above the age of reason knew that martyrdom was a possibility, even if an unlikely one. I believe that martyrdom acts like baptism in the removal of all sin. I hope and trust that Christ would deal gently with souls come to worship Him who had their lives snatched away by His enemies.
