PopeWatch: Health

 

PopeWatch tends to believe the Vatican that this is a minor illness, else they would be going into siege mode and denying the obvious.  The Pope will be 87 on December 17.  The oldest Pope is Pope Leo XIII who died at 93.  Pope John Paul II had a much worse health profile than this Pope, but his death slide began with breathing difficulties caused by flu in February 2005.  Once you get above 80 nothing can be taken for granted health wixe.

The pope has entered an age range where (if I’m to believe the Wacky World of Websites) about 1/3 of the population has identifiable Alzheimer’s. One of the signatures of Alzheimer’s is that the sufferer is not self-conscious about his impairments. Unlike Ronald Reagan, it’s a reasonable inference the people around Francis are operators who want to exploit him, not people who love him and care about his welfare.
