It was the Romans who referred to the area as Palestine and while it included part of present day Israel, it also included pieces of Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. Any form of Roman deference to Jewish administration of some parts of religious and civil society effectively ended with the siege of Masada in the 7th decade AD. Arabian Muslims did not arrive until the early 7th century after Mohamed murdered the Jewish tribes in Arabia.
