Back on the very early 60s, in 5th grade in Albuquerque, we had music classes piped into our classroom once a week. We learned songs ftom a book. One of the songs, rather oddly I now think, was set to the melody of Hatikvah, but the words were different. “Lift up your eyes. Behold the light. Turn to the East where dawns the day. Let your tears no longer fall…” And that’s all I remember. I’ve tried but never been able, to track that version down or learn anything about who wrote it or why we were taught it. It “feels” rather as if it were somehow derived from Isaiah, but… In any case, it’s stuck with me. Just wish I could remember the rest of it.
