The Kennedys have always been Democrats first, especially in regard to their alleged Catholicism. Imagine being so invested in a party that you publicly slam a brother for the audacity of leaving a political party, and doing so in defense of a man who is obviously unfit to be President. RFK Junior will never get a vote from me, but tonight he does have my sympathy. Growing up in that particular clan must have been sheer hell.

Kathleen Townsend attempted and failed to build a political career for herself in Maryland. Rory Kennedy is putatively employed as a ‘documentary filmmaker’. Kerry Kennedy married Andrew Cuomo, then cuckolded him. The most emblematic thing Joseph P. Kennedy II ever did was land one of his brother’s girlfriends in a wheelchair. Heckuva job, Ethel.
On the bright side, if it can be called that, RFK Jr. still has 6 siblings who didn’t join in this statement. The most prominent among that group being Christopher G. Kennedy, who was a member of the U of Illinois Board of Trustees for some years and ran for governor of Illinois in the 2018 Dem primary, losing to “world’s dumbest billionaire” JB Pritzker.
Ethel had 11 children. One died in 1984 and another in 1997, so there are four siblings other than the quartet who signed this. Douglas, Max, Christopher, and Courtney. My rough impression is that a scatter of Joseph P. Kennedy’s grandchildren have built business and professional careers without generating scandals. That would include Edward Kennedy, Jr, the twins Christopher and Max among Ethel’s crew, and one of the Smiths. Another of the Smiths is a doctor, but there’s a miasma of credible accusations of sexual assault against him (though on one which went to trial, he was acquitted).

I find this mild in comparison to the Kennedys long history of troubling behaviour – widespread infidelity, Rosemary Kennedy treatment by her own father, Chappaquiddick, Skakel…
And Robert Kennedy Jnr allegation of his appalling treatment of his ex-wife Mary Richardson Kennedy- if you believe the allegations he exhumed her body after her burial and buried her in an isolated plot!
Attacking a brother over his party affiliation, or lack of, is really not that bad.
