What about the descendants of Africans who sold their fellow countrymen to European slave traders? Oh wait! They get a pass because “Shut up, you racist!” My bad.
The descendants of those who sold their brothers and sisters into slavery may come as immigrants and be DEI candidates. It’s the “white” people who are all bad.
Repeating myself, I know, but…one of the first acts of the next pope who actually believes Church teaching should be to suppress the Jesuits, confiscate their properties and turn them over to the faithful religious orders.
When I see something along these lines, the ‘we need to learn, be honest, face the truth’, I wonder what world they’re living in. This is America in 2023. That’s like saying McCarthy needs to wake up and get serious about communism. Almost all my sons learned about America in public school was the negative, such as slavery. And you can’t go a day without seeing it brought up in one way or another. What more does he want?
I fully admit that the Jesuits were (are?) filthy slave traders. IMO the Pope has no choice but to suppress the order and then laicize himself for being the highest-ranking member of this clearly racist organization.
It would be one thing if people were celebrating a past fact or person (Ghengis Khan among the Mongols, for example), who ought not be so celebrated. Please show me any American celebrating slavery. Please show me anyone honoring Washington or Jefferson, who does not acknowledge their failings along with their achievements.
Apologizing for something I had no involvement in is not on my agenda.
