When I was a kid, we had a saying: “Sticks and stones can break my bones but names will never hurt me”
… We were so young and stupid! Thanks goodness now we know that words are actually violence. God save the Queen 😉
The Michigan House of Representatives recently passed a bill, HB 4474, that would make it a felony to intentionally ‘misgender’ someone. I believe the ‘misgendering’ must be shown to be part of an attempt to harass or intimidate the individual— but isn’t harassment and/or intimidation already against the law?
The law as written will be held to be unconstitutional by the courts. It violates freedom of speech and may violate the establishment of a state religion: Wokism.
And CAG, to your point about “sticks and stones…”, when was the last time you heard the phrase “it’s a free country and I can say what I want”? I live in a red state and I can’t recall the last time I heard that expression in conversation…
Don, I’m glad that the bill has little chance of surviving scrutiny from the courts— but I’m disturbed that lawmakers (the majority of whom are lawyers) would write and pass such legislation.
There is a subset of our countrymen who hate our Bill of Rights. That fact bears remembering.

No truce with the Left.
Britain has had a ‘Conservative’ government since 2010. Or so I’ve been told.

“No truce with the Left.“
They certainly don’t want a truce with us.
The left are plain stupid. They obviously haven’t worked out that unplugging their computers from the power socket actually stops the hate comments assaulting they’re fragile selves. Or that there is a “power off” button on their devices and they actually have a choice whether to engage in any rhetoric on the internet. It reminds me of those city kids who don’t know that milk comes from cows. I can’t believe how idiotic our world has become.
