A priest known as an angel of the altar due to his intense devotion to the Eucharist, his entire life was an act of love for God. From the time of his death in 1828 miracles began to occur.
Saint of the Day Quote: Blessed Dominic Lentini
- Donald R. McClarey
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
What a great name for a (future) saint to memorialize during Lent!. From EWTN’s biography:
“Lentini was always available to administer the sacrament of Penance, and by his zeal he brought about the conversion of many sinners. He was totally dedicated to evangelizing activities not only in Lauria (southern Italy) but throughout the Diocese and outside it. His Lenten homilies touched many hearts, because he first practiced what he preached. He also had a tender devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows spreading this devotion and founding a congregation of spiritual commitment, penance and charity.”
One miraculous cure was confirmed for his Beatification, but numerous other miraculous cures are attributed to intercession by him after his death. (The best description is in Italian, I believe. Google: Beato Domenico Lentini Sacerdote 25 febbraio)
