Social catholic Matthew’s Gospel 25, ” I was hungry, and you voted demoncrat. […]”

Is Jesus in line with their totalitarian fabrications, propaganda and superstitions?

If he were speaking of Objectivism or Social Darwinism, he might have a point. Only a few soi-disant libertarians adhere to either. The various Baskin & Robbins flavors of libertarianism have their problems, of course (don’t get me started).

Catholic social teaching is a work in progress and it’s not in its current form implementable in sum (though there are parts). The only people completely ‘in line’ with it are people who do not know how anything works.

Note, Annett studied economics, though I don’t believe he’s ever been a working economist. He knows this. You might check your archives to see what claims he was making a dozen years ago on these boards, when he was pushing particular schemes for publicly financing medical care. It wouldn’t surprise me to discover that Morning’s Minion did claim that if you demurred on Obamacare, you were not ‘in line’ with Catholic social teaching, but I haven’t got the receipts. (I don’t think the current crew running Vox Nova at Patheticos have any archives from his era there).

As far as climate change, I can put Mr. Annett’s fears to rest; there is practically no one on this planet who denies that climate changes. If they do then they have never been outside or are perhaps politicians or academics who somehow think or maintain that the climate has been static up until 100 or so years ago. Perhaps he has those in mind?

In respect to the death penalty, I’d refer him to the words of the divine author of the Scriptures who prescribes it in the first book of the Bible, as well as St. Paul who further fleshes it out. If “Catholic social teaching” ostensibly says otherwise, then it should be ignored in the same way that one shouldn’t saw off the branch one is sitting on. I’d also suggest there is a crucial distinction between admitting its legitimacy in principle and determining its application is specific circumstances, the latter of which doesn’t necessarily negate the former.

As far as libertarianism, it would be helpful to be specific as a repudiation of the death penalty is something many libertarians would support, which would be awkward for the coherence of his tweet and might lead one to think he is secretly a libertarian.

If a bull were decreed stating that all Democrats were excommunicated unless they left the party, there would be a sudden outcry for “freedom” and a lot of ink spilled on how unjust the Church is, etc.
I think Musk ruffled some feathers.

It’s odd how the modern religious left equates the Gospel to leftwing politics in a way liberals used to accuse the religious right of doing.

Something they’ve been doing continuously since 1965, and it wasn’t novel then. Someone listened to George McGovern’s acceptance speech at the 1972 Democratic convention and said, “It’s pure Methodist Federation for Social Action”. McGovern was wrong on the issues, but he was a decent person.

This little piss ant of a person is not worth my time. His claim to fame is a photo which includes him near the pope. His true colors are those of the totalitarian Left. Bet on it.

At least I had the good fortune of growing up with weathermen who at least were entertaining and didn’t try to hijack the Church.

Any Catholic may be critical of any aspect of Catholic Social Teaching that he thinks is flawed. CST is not De Fide, although a great deal of ink has been spilled trying to make it seem so.
