But God loves all the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve. Such love says not a word of approval as to the sins they embrace. In our time we are governed by the most stupid of sophists.

Okay, remove the laws. Saying this because I know of many marriages where the husband has come out. He has used his wife as a beard; she is devastated. Even worse if they have children and or the husband is trans. Of course the church grants an annullment in these situations. Beyond that no dropping the age of consent; no allowing same sex marriages/blessings performed in the church. The behavior is sinful, but the pope never says that leading some to think such behavior is not sinful.
Laws and Shame against adultery don’t condemn the adulterer.
This man does not reason.

I thought the Pope was all about respecting and honoring different cultures, hence his Canadian apology tour. How dare the Church try to make disciples of all nations, especially First Nations! But now he’s saying we SHOULDN’T respect cultures that aren’t flying the rainbow flag? He needs to make up his mind.
I have a real problem with the Pope making these ad hoc comments because he doesn’t know the practical and political implication of his words. I bet the reason these countries have outlawed homosexuality is probably because of the spread of disease and associated problems homosexuality brings- STD such as HIV. Their governments are poor and don’t have the resources to deal with the health implications that comes with homosexuality. His words are reckless. Eames yes everyone is a child of God. Hitler was also a child of God. But doesn’t mean his actions were ok.
It starts there – a place we can all agree. Homosexuals shouldn’t be rounded up and murdered. OK. Nor should they be beaten by police. Yep. In fact, it’s nobody’s business what someone does behind closed doors. I suppose. Why, it’s time to say laws against sexual behavior should be abolished. I guess. In fact, it turns out that any sexual desire is perfectly normal and if you disagree you’re a homophobic bigot. Wait a minute. More to the point, there is no reason any combination of people can’t be married, including gays. I don’t know about that. Why, now we know gender doesn’t even exist, and if you disagree you should be banned from modern media, fired and erased from society. When did that happen?
That’s how the world went, so it makes you wonder if this is just getting the Church to go down the same path.
Someone should remind the reporter that you’d have to scrounge to find a locus where ‘homosexuality’ is criminalized. What is treated as a crime is sodomy, public lewdness, prostitution, and loitering.
The problem with PF is that he says something reasonable on a stand alone basis on whatever subject and then some nutjob (Fr. Martin) comes along and twists it beyond recognition. Even worse when someone in the scarlet or purple does the same.
I wonder if the pope considered how his statements will hinder his attempts to pander to Muslims.
