Burn of the Week

Stalin was allied with Hitler until Hitler invaded the Soviet Union. Stalin’s body count in his Holocausts was approximately twenty million. He and Hitler were moral peers, thugs who used mass murder to carry out their warped ideologies.

Didn’t Stalin kill more people than Hitler? What was the official death count by the time he starved his people to death..?

My son in college has encountered this. Many of his peers believe that Stalin did commit atrocities, but it was unique to him. The stories of Soviet persecution of the Church, or mass murder, or gulags, were simply American propaganda. Which isn’t new either. I remember running into a young grad student back in the mid 00s who firmly believed the Soviets were the brave defenders of freedom in the Cold War, fighting America’s racist military industrial complex. That was around 2006. Again, I sometimes think we way underestimate what the Left has been doing these years, and how well it has been doing it.

@Dave G.

The professor’s and students will be able to experience a gulag up front and personal, due to the negligence of indoctrination centers of so-called higher learning.

Stalin said: “To kill one person is homicide. To kill 30,000,000 is a statistic.”
Stalin starved 30,000,000 people in the Ukraine by taking all of their food by force; taring up floor boards in homes for any hidden food.
The Katyn massacre was a series of mass executions of nearly 22,000 Polish military officers and intelligentsia prisoners of war carried out by the Soviet Union, specifically the NKVD in April and May 1940. Wikipedia
Stalin blamed Hitler and for half of a century the world believed Stalin.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Russian novelist outlined the Gulag Archipelago, the prison system in Russia, which if read will turn your stomach for weeks.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, Canadian clinical psychologist, now working with Ben Shapiro on the Daily Wire has a study on you tube of The Gulag Archipelago
I fear America is fast becoming the American Gulag.

But we know that the Soviets stopped the Holocaust! When say that’s what the records said, and they’d know– they had the records for Auschwitz, before they destroyed them….

(Was in my 20s before we got any history that wasn’t the USSR’s story, and in my 30s before other sources leaked out. Short version, the cover-up of the Katyn massacre was unlikely to be unique.)

Why Ukraine fights. Maybe because Lenin and Stalin killed off a quarter of them in various massacres and induced famines. And so, as it were, your latter-day useful idiots call them ‘Nazis.’

I wished I had thought of it. I think it’s on Twitter. There is a guy goes by the handle, “BULLSHIT-SQUARED.”

That anderson guy has a streaming lump of excrement for brains.

Apparently, no one knows, at the end of WWII the Red Army sat across the river from Warsaw so that the Nazis could kill off the Polish resistance for Uncle Joe.

Shortly after I was appointed professor at the Catholic University of America and particularly after Russia became an ally of the United States in World War II, communism began to have an appeal to many Americans. This prompted in me a deep interest in communism. As a philosopher, I was trained in the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, which is complete and total in the sense that it embraces God, man and society. Communism also has a complete philosophy. Cajetan, in commenting on a text of Aquinas, observed that if one starts with a wrong assumption and is logical from that point on, he never will get back on the road to truth.

As a preparation for communism, I have read through the writings of Marx, Lenin and Stalin. Their philosophy can be summarized rather simply: man has been “alienated” from his true nature in two ways—by religion and by private property. Man was alienated from himself by religion, because it made him subservient to God; man was alienated from himself by private property because it made him subject to an employer. If, therefore, man was ever to be restored to his true nature, religion and private property must be destroyed. Atheism and the economics of communism are inseparable.

Because of the position I took concerning Russia, my radio talks were carefully monitored. Someone stationed in the booth would shut me off the air in case I veered from the then-popular position of Russia being a democracy. I sent in a manuscript for one broadcast that contained the line, “Poland was crucified between two thieves—the Nazis and the Soviets.” I received a telegram from the Bishops’ Conference asking me not to say that, because I was implying that one of the thieves was Russia. I answered the telegram by suggesting: “How would it be to call Russia the ‘good’ thief?”

Just before World War II when Russia and Germany were still enemies, I made the prophecy on radio that as “Pilate and Herod were enemies and became friends over the bleeding Body of Christ, so one day communism and Nazism, which are now enemies, will become friends over the bleeding body of Poland.” The prophecy became true as the Nazis and Soviets were united.

Despite my opposition to the evils of communism, I have always loved Russia. The chalice I use every day in Holy Mass was used in St. Petersburg in its days of faith. It may very well be that the basic reason why communism appealed to Russia was religious. Deeply embedded in the Russian soul were passionate religious convictions: the universal vocation of Russia to call all men to brotherhood; the need of sacrifice and pain to accomplish this mission; and the supreme need of resigning oneself to God’s Will. Communism in the face of a declining Church promised the people the realization of these three ideals, but without clearly telling them that they would be emptied of God. Brotherhood became a revolutionary proletariat; sacrifice became violence, and the Will of God became the will of the dictator. Communism is a religion, a surrender to an absolute. That is why it appeals to those who are without faith, and why Soviet Russia is today regarded as the last hope of the Western man who lives without God.

Most interesting but to acknowledge the winner and still champion in the body count competition is Mao Tse Tung starting with the civil war beginning in 1927, briefly suspended to fight the Japanese in WW II, resumed in 1946 to 1949. Followed by murder of landlords with more than one hectre (2acres) and other unsatisfactory people, including disedents in Tibet. Succeeded by the cultural revolution 1966 to 1976 and later iterations against Ueghars, Christians, traditional Buddhists and others for a grand total of an estimated (low side) 40 million human beings. All of this was followed by increased trade, cultural contacts, spying and espionage against the West during their century “long march”.

Anderson has a faculty position in Australia.

He’s a communist fruitcake. He’s an anti-Semite. He was fired from his position at University of Sydney in 2019, for placing the swaztika over the Israel flag on a slideshow during a lecture. He had previously been spotted walking around defending a fellow who had worn a badge which read “death to Israel”, by wearing a jacket with those words. He supports the governments of Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela. He is pro-Assad and Pro-Hamas. He considers governments which suppress and murder their own people as better than Western governments. Yet he freely lives, works and is able to successfully sue his employer (University of Sydney) for unfair dismissal based on freedom of speech that he indulges in. He also has a warning under his Twitter bio which states that he will block “trolls and abusers”. The blatant hypocrisy of this crackpot is kinda amusing because of his lack of self-awareness.

If it wasn’t in his contract, he has a cause of action.

The scandal is that he was hired. University political science departments have a limited number of openings in any six-year period. If the academic job market in Australia is like that in the United States, the position he was granted had 50 other applicants. And, if Australia is like the United States, starboard applicants for the position were rejected out of hand, and there weren’t many anyway as they get run out of graduate school if they ever gain admission and fellowships.

Over the period running from 1989 to 2010, the arts and sciences faculty I know best granted tenure to over 100 professors. Four were identifiable Republicans; one was a musician, one a political scientist, one an ecologist, and one was an economist. Note, the applicants for tenure would have been drawn from people born during the years running from 1959 to 1979. For those born from 1959 to 1970, voting Republican was modal in their youth, and for those born from 1971 to 1979, common enough.

We know who gets hired and who does not. This is why many arts and sciences faculties deserve to die.

Note, the situation is so dire in this country that they cannot even tolerate outside speakers anymore. The administration allows loosely-wired students egged on by enabler faculty to shut down events.

When Tin Tin in the Land of the Soviets was printed in 1929, people dismissed its claims of poor conditions and various atrocities being committed in the Soviet Union as right wing propaganda.

White-washing the Soviet Union is nearly a century long tradition at this point.

Absolutely. Yes, Australia is very much like America in that universities are overtaken by leftist faculty members and vocal leftist students.
