Clever move, bringing an orchestra along to drown out the screams of fear and pain.
Civil War wounded were often fairly stoic, as attested by the courage they often displayed in amputations after the ether had run out. The main screams on the battlefield were the wild Rebel Yell and the responding Yankee Hurrah. World War II vets have gotten the title Greatest Generation. Maybe, but there is much to say on that score for Johnny Reb and Billy Yank.
