We had a visiting priest today and we had a candle procession with 64 candles for each of the million lives taken by abortion since Roe. Our parish priest would have done something similar if he had not been on vacation. He is one of the most overtly pro-life priests I have known.

No, our priest did not say anything about Roe v Wade, but he has brought up the subject of abortion every now and again.
Roe was a miscarriage of Justice. Roe denies man’s conscience, man’s freedom and man’s sovereignty over all. The state does not endow conscience, nor freedom, nor sovereign personhood. God infuses the immortal rational soul with grace, freedom, sovereign personhood and conscience. The state has no authentic power to redefine the human being, our gender, our civlization. The state is the servant of the people. o why is the state usurping the power of God in creation? “Congress of whom the Justices are part is prohibited from making any law concerning the establishment of religion, the acknowledgement of almighty God “their Creator”.
So, why?
One sentence acknowledging the over turn of Roe vs Wade at our mission.
We heard a truly Catholic homily on the evils of abortion. However, it came from the deacon as our “Pastor” would never have preached that, and he is away on Sabbatical. After Mass, I joked with the associate pastor, that when the cat’s away…..
We had a visiting priest who had been scheduled to lead a Project Rachel retreat this weekend, but the retreat was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, so he gave the homily he would have given at the retreat. He tied it to the Old Testament and Gospel readings about “the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light” and emphasized that Jesus will bring light to the dark places in our lives if we allow him to. He noted that many women who have had abortions fear that God cannot forgive them because they knew all along that it was wrong, and they need to know that forgiveness is available through the sacrament of penance. So I guess you could say the topic of the unborn was addressed indirectly or from a different perspective (that of the abortive mother who mourns her lost child).
Monday’s Mass intention was for The Legal Protection of the Unborn. In his homily which was quite long for a weekday Mass, our priest discussed 64 million unborn aborted, and the demise of the family. It was good, though I wish he had included what’s going on in the Virginia state house. The mission is 100 miles from the Arlington Diocese seat which is next to Washinton DC and the emphasis seems to be on the federal level. VA Delegate Margaret Ransone, R, has been tasked by Governor Youngkin to craft pro life legislation. She is a very pro life and pro family Christian. The Assembly house has a Republican majority, but the Senate is still Democrat which makes it tough. We are blessed to have Governor Youngkin, Lt Gov Sears and AG Miyares. Hopefully those three will return Virginia to the pro life state it was beofr McAuliffe and Northam. We are also blessed to have Terry Beatly who gives pro life talks at the state and national level.
Briefly, as in “One of the things that can be celebrated at Mass today.” Underwhelmed.
