Something for the weekend. From the Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. The song a Modern Major General was intended as a lampoon of Queen Victoria’s best general Garnet Wolseley. Wolseley found the song amusing and would often sing it for friends.

Hehe, I grew up on this music…. Some of my favorite memories are the quarterly trips to the “big city” (Namath Falls) to stock up on four+ months worth of non-perishables, with a Gilbert and Sullivan tape as the “sing along” music— well, that and a bunch of old western, but I loved G&S because they weren’t sad. Even the one about the little Tom Tit bird….
