Plenty of evidence that President Xi does not feel secure in his rule of China. I think he is merely trying to convey a tough image, rather than signaling an immediate strike on Taiwan. I imagine however that more than a few of his advisers are stating that with the US having a leader with dementia and having depleted many of their weapon systems in the Ukraine War, that China may have an opportunity to take Taiwan that may not come again. Further economic problems in China may cause him to assume that a short, victorious war is just what he needs. For every war that is planned, there are ten that come about due to miscalculation.

Taiwan will fight like hell. They hate Communism.
The Chicoms can only consider an invasion on certain times of the year, due to sea and weather conditions.
China expert Gordon Chang speculated recently that the ChiComs will engineer a soft start to their Taiwan (Nationalist Free China) invasion. Meaning a aweful virus will be introduced to weaken or even incapcitate the island population long before the military invasion. Sobering thought since the ChiComs have no conscience.

After their experience with COVID, they might rethink that idea, which could backfire.
Wuhan and surroundings didn’t fare well with COVID 19. Nor did cities that had non stop flights arriving from Wuhan. Maybe the ChiComs have studied lessons learned. Chang didn’t say how a virulent disease might be delivered.
