This clip was sent to me by a friend, with the heading “this movie won an Oscar.” I don’t think it did (can find no record of it even being nominated), but it’s a fine lesson. As the Monte Python intro went: “And now for something completely different.”
A LESSON IN KINDNESS:
“TICKET WITHOUT A SEAT”
- Bob Kurland, Ph.D.
Bob Kurland, Ph.D.
Retired, cranky, old physicist. Convert to Catholicism in 1995. Trying to show that there is no contradiction between what science tells us about the world and our Catholic faith. Intermittent blogs and adult education classes to achieve this end (see http://rationalcatholic.blogspot.com/ and http://home.ptd.net/~rkurland). Extraordinary Minister of Communion, volunteer to federal prison and hospital; lector, EOMC.
Sometime player of bass clarinet, alto clarinet, clarinet, bass, tenor bowed psaltery for parish instrumental group and local folk group.
At 92.5, and using a cane, I empathize with the old guy.
I disagree with the “moral,” but maybe something like there’s a special honor to doing so.
Real kindness is anytime you give something of yours, because you know it’s needed.
Either way, it’s definitely true charity– Christ-like love.
I like the short. It is a little “on the nose”, but still good. Very much like the Parables of Christ. Maybe a combo of the widow’s mite and the good Samaritan.
To the Oscar question, it’s fairly low quality in audio and video, and it has a wholesome message, so I can’t believe it would win an award.
I liked that Bob. I think it’s an underrated message that we care for anyone older and not as physically capable. We all end up in the same place, if we are fortunate to live a long life.
