More information has been released, involving McElroy’s restoration of a sexual predator—now convicted in criminal court—and warnings by members of the clergy sent to Pope Francis prior to last week’s consistory, where the pope made McElroy a Cardinal.

Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
As they say; Foor geeet a-bouuut-it
As long as there are homosexual clergy, you can’t have zero tolerance of sexual deviances of any sort. And Pope Francis still hasn’t realised a gay priest can’t live a double life. Or maybe he has realised and expecting he can re-write the moral laws of Our Creator.
It fits the theme of the Judas papacy.
McElroy is proof that the only thing that matters to the pontiff is singing from his song sheet.
And when it’s an autocracy, there’s zippo the serfs can do about it.
As one who lives in McElroy’s diocese, I think I bring a perspective no one else here does. To be sure, Cdl. McElroy is a loathsome creature. But he plays both sides. For instance, he is ostensibly very supportive of local pro-life efforts. He attends practically all the galas and fundraisers for pro-life apostolates and crisis pregnancy centers. He even publicly praised early pro-life efforts of the Trump Administration. He has also led at least one prayer vigil outside of a Worse than Murder Inc abutchery house on a Good Friday, which is something few bishops do. A little over four years ago, I was at a low level fundraiser of a pro-life medical apostolate talking to this lawyer who has been an active pro-life activist for decades. He was praising McElroy to the hilt. I had to suppress my inner Gary Coleman (those old to remember the sit com Different Strokes will get that reference) and not say anything. This guy would be one of the last people I’d expect to gush about McElroy.
As to the Bertrand situation. I know I had attended at least two masses where he was the celebrant. I may have met him once or twice. But I know people who were very close to him. Judging from Facebook pictures, at least one individual remained friends with him after he was laicized. Bertrand put on a very orthodox front when he was an active priest.
In order to put a little perspective on the matter, I would note that the Church has had celibate gay priests almost from the start. Many, if not most, led lives in accordance with their vows. Same goes for any number of other unsatisfactory propensities. It is when personal concerns and extraneous matters enter into pastoral actions that potential for mismanagement, favoritism and even scandal can arise. It would appear that whoever has the job of whispering necessary cautions to the ear of the Pontiff should consider another position more suitable to his abilities.
The Liber Gomorrhianus of Saint Peter Damian, written in 1051. indicates that the Lavender Mafia is not a new element within the clergy.
“In order to put a little perspective on the matter, I would note that the Church has had celibate gay priests almost from the start. Many, if not most, led lives in accordance with their vows.”
While this may be true to some extent, it is a grave mistake in my opinion to accept a man into a seminary with deep seated same sex attractions. The seminary and the priesthood are all male environments and the development of fraternal bonds is important for a priest to live out their vows of celibacy. It should be obvious that injecting sexual attraction into that mix causes serious harm, regardless of whether or not that attraction is acted upon. And this creates the perfect environment for the Lavander Mafia to gain a foothold and flourish.
And for similar reasons I believe that anything less than a return to the pre-“don’t ask, don’t tell” ban poses a likewise threat to the military.
