Man is created to know, to love and to serve God. Man serves God by helping his neighbor to heaven. Spouses are to help each other get to heaven. King Karl Habsburg of Austria and Zita of Bourbon-Parma vowed on their wedding day to help each other get to heaven. In Holy Orders, priests vow to help souls get to heaven. To abdicate our purpose in life will not bode well.
