Well, the cops tried lying their tales off and now they are trying the blue wall of silence. All useless. Everything is going to come out about this debacle. The lawsuits are going to be epic, and if the cops aren’t careful some of them could be heading for prison.
Shocked, Shocked!

And the Uvalde police chief was just sworn in yesterday to the Uvalde city council.
I hate that I feel so pessimistic, but something tells me that the city and cops will walk away scot free and eventually award themselves medals and promotions. As you said previously, heads should roll, but they won’t. Hope I’m wrong.
Oh, the civil suits are coming and they will be glorious, with punitive damage counts, negligence counts, malfeasance counts, you name it. Discovery will ensure that we learn all there is to know about this murderous travesty. I stand by my prediction that some of the cops are ultimately going to prison on obstruction of justice charges.
Hope they do.
Evidently, the Uvalde PD purchased malfunctioning, scary-looking guns. Said scary-looking lumps of plastic and steel items failed to rise up and stop the gun man’s.
These lying cowards deserve everything they get. If they had an ounce of character they would commit Seppuku in front of the PD headquarters.
I have read more than once that when people have sued in the past because the police did not protect them that our SCOTUS ruled that the police had no legal responsibility to protect members of the public.

That in no way absolves police from civil suits. Happens all the time.
Donald, I understand that the standard of evidence is lower in civil suits. Are those civil suits being pursued under state laws or federal laws or what? I don’t know what laws the police were violating that could be used against them in a civil case.
The standard of proof in civil suits is normally by a preponderance of the evidence which means roughly that something is more likely true than not. It is a much lower burden of proof than the usual criminal standard which is beyond a reasonable doubt. I would assume the suits would mostly be filed in state court. The cops could be sued on numerous grounds including negligence in what they did, failure to take action to prevent loss of life, my old friends malfeascance, misfeascance and nonfeascance would doubtless come into play, along with any applicable state statutes peculiar to Texas. In short, everything and the kitchen sink will be tossed at them. Considering the adverse publicity surrounding all of this, I expect that the cases will be attempted to be settled by the insurers for the town and the cops quickly. If such suits would get before juries, the damages awarded could be quite high.
Anyhow, Johnny Depp won his defamation lawsuits [$15 million]vs. his ex-wife.
What to think? I’m not a lawyer.
Believe all women. [BARF]
PS: re; ‘more likely than not.’ In US GAAP [financial accounting] that is the standard for recording a loss or gain/income [as in writing off a defaulted loan or security]. And, it’s far closer to 51% than 99%.
The ex-wife is a poor actress from the portions of the trial I witnessed. Two typical denizens of Hollywood, a match made in Hell. I think Depp turned in his man card long ago judging from what he tolerated from her.
