And the widows of Ashur are loud in their wail,
And the idols are broke in the temple of Baal;
And the might of the Gentile, unsmote by the sword,
Hath melted like snow in the glance of the Lord![
Lord Byron, The Destruction of Sennacherib
Pass the popcorn and keep it coming. The Democrats were already looking at a red wave election in the fall. If this goes through the Tech Lords’ censorship for them is broken. Well, they will always have the stolen election of 2020 in their memories.
Update: Twitter has agreed to be purchased by Musk.
I wonder if on some esoteric non-sensical charge or regulation the SEC or the FCC will step in and say Elon cannot buy Twitter. I know, I know, I am bone headedly ignorant of all things economic and legal. But let’s see what happens. The Beast isn’t going to accept defeat without a fight.
What LCQ says is worth considering. The Left cannot afford to lose Twitter before November 8th.
It also appears that the number of advance notices of shareholder lawsuit action against the Twitter executives were so numerous and daunting that this course change was of necessity chosen.
This would seem to be at least marginally good news, but it’s tempered by the realization that free speech concerns are effectively under the control of gazzilionaires to whom we now owe what…a measure of gratitude? And at one price? There is likely to be one. I saw a story in the past week or so that Musk is heavily invested in Communist China and therefore has every incentive to make the CCP oligarchs happy. Hence any enthusiasm for this expected purchase should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Anything that hurts the Tech Lords is good initially. As for Musk, we will see what he does with Twitter. My guess is that he does believe he can turn a profit if he makes it a type of Wild West free speech platform.
Wounding the beast is a great start.
I’ll keep Musk in my prayers.
I shall rejoice. With crossed fingers.
This isn’t a good thing (IMHO). It would’ve been so much better if the market had just decided to abandon Twitter. Sites like that only have the power we give them. (and the tech lords have just made a very large profit, so I can’t even relish in a warm fuzzy feeling of schadenfreude) … But it seems we may get to have free speech in America again, so long as a billionaire buys it for us. Will the censorship-loving libs stick around to see it, or will they jump ship to the next media-hyped social fad site?
CAG.
It would’ve been so much better if the market had just decided to abandon Twitter.
Timing is everything as they say.
How much damage would the absence of free speech do by the time the Market deemed it, Twitter,
insignificant? How many more election cycles before the exodus of Twitter by (a) mericans?
How many elites do you think give a rats ass about the “field hands” freedoms? One just might and he’s putting his money where his mouth is. I pray he’s the real deal.
You guys aren’t gonna believe this, but Deacon Greydanus is deeply disappointed in Musk. Dude never misses an opportunity to countersignal.

The corollary of this question would be “Why are the field hands getting all their information from elites who don’t give a rats ass about their freedoms?

I have no idea exactly what Musk will do, provided he actually gets the deal done, although I hope he will do the things he already has suggested. I think “promised” may be too strong a term. In any event, I have a hard time imagining that Twitter could be any worse under Musk than it became under Dorsey and the Indian dude to whom he passed the reins.
Billionaire games.
Felicitations! Musk has a bunch of deranged cry-bullies wailing and gnashing teeth. It’s a good thing.
Larry Kudlow [Fox Business] says this is a free speech victory. Larry is one of my [very few] go-to guys.
President Trump says he won’t go back to Twitter. He is launching his own social media.
So, accountants and bankers are a dour crowd.
The richest man on the Planet is buying [majority share] and taking private Twitter with other people’s money [not that there’s anything wrong with that]. The deal is $25.5 billion Musk borrows [how to pay the interest and principal, sell TSLA shares?] and $21 billion in equity/stock [not cash] to ‘pay’ current Twitter shareholders. I only would take the cash.
The Wall Street guys are gushing [huge fees and they think the acquisition debt can be repaid]. They have very short memories: ‘Leveraged buy-out’ and ‘push-down’ accounting have been problems. The acquisition debt [likely to be accounted for as debt on the books of the private corporation, Twitter] needs to be serviced which requires positive cash flows and profits, which so far Twitter and TSLA have not attained. And, after paying debt service little real economic value may be available for the paper current Twitter shareholders will have received in exchange for their publicly-traded Twitter shares – which were worth nowhere near $54 per, anyhow. . .
Tonight, read all that if you can’t fall asleep.
Robert, what I find interesting is that Deacon Greydanus and Fr. Martin are both rushing in, not to condemn far right, white supremacist, homophobic, MAGA, Trump, etc.. It’s that they’re doing the old ‘money better spent’ trick (which typically goes unnoticed when not convenient) purely to help defend against what the Left has clearly seen as a threat. It’s no longer attack the enemies of the Left. Or attack these people who fun afoul of our own positions. It’s attack anyone the Left deems a danger – since I have not clue one where Musk is on virtually any issue. All I know is that it has the left/media in an uproar. I find that to be an interesting development.
“You guys aren’t gonna believe this, but Deacon Greydanus is deeply disappointed in Musk. Dude never misses an opportunity to countersignal.”
Greydanus is as relevant as rotary phones, dial-up internet and full meals on passenger flights.

Of course, the Greydanuses and Martins will never hold the Vatican to the same degree of accountability — especially when dioceses are closing churches and schools when they’re not being sold to Muslims, and especially when Christians in China, the Middle East and Africa face severe persecution.
