”But if the message itself is true, why does faith need maintenance?”
Seems to me that we humans naturally need to express our love in all our relationships; and not just the one we have with our God. The ‘worship, prayer, fasting and charity’ this guy denigrates is more than mere “maintenance”— just like it’s more than mere relationship “maintenance” to buy flowers for your wife or read your five-year-old a bedtime story. Love without expression would just wither into an abstraction.
Such stupidity.
It stings.
The only apposite response to such doofuses is, “OK, Boomer.”
In fact, that “requiring maintenance” insanity is doubly true for all their LGTBQPOCFJBGHIVZY fabrications/inventions, socialist [economics with Alzheimer’s] myths on the economy and conspiracy theories on markets, CRT, Antifas, BLM, and the rest of their criminal enterprises.
Why is he even posing the argument if it was all nothing? The obsession to prove that there is nothing is stupid in itself.
I believe it was Abp. Sheen who said that if there were no innate human knowledge of God, there wouldn’t be any atheists, because they would have nothing to deny. In other words, (written by another great Catholic), the gentleman “doth protest too much.” 😇
Frank, Abp Sheen is shaking his head at mankind’s stupidity.

It is not “stupidity;” it is spiritual blindness.
“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 2:14
Seems to me that we humans naturally need to express our love in all our relationships; and not just the one we have with our God.

Faith without works is dead. (James 2:14)
Love is action.
(I Corinthians 13)
The only apposite response to such doofuses is, “OK, Boomer.”

Let me be the first Boomer to tell you. Spiritual blindness & death have been the condition of all generations since the Fall. (See the book of Genesis & the book of Romans.)
Now, who is the doofus?
The biological definition of life includes movement, growth, & a need for nourishment. Our God is alive & moving; hence our faith is not an dead/static. Our living faith comes from the work of the Holy Spirit to conform us to the image of Christ. Christ, Himself, is active in the growth & maintenance of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
