The Walt Disney Corporation has brought to the public via its “adult” studios an overt and constant accentuation of sex. Many concerned church leaders consider it a tragedy and a travesty.

“With Disney [corporation], there’s obviously an increasing emphasis on nonfamily-oriented entertainment,” says D. James Kennedy, noted author and pastor. “Like so many, I grew up with Walt Disney. He presented sometimes the only family entertainment available. It’s very distressing to see [the corporation] moving in a direction like this.”

Hollywood’s argument is that they’re not trying to lead people by the nose. They are not attempting to force their agendas on anyone. They merely make movies that reflect society. Kennedy disagrees:

“That is mostly untrue. No doubt gutter language and toilet language are in this country. Everyone of us has heard some samples. But America is not made up of gutters and toilets. If you fix your camera on just those kinds of things, that’s what you’re going to get…”

“[Hollywood] picks some negative and unwholesome part of society and fixes its cameras on it. That simply popularizes it and makes it more commonplace.”

Kennedy says the key term is desensitization. He points out that the Hollywood elite, including those at the helm of the Disney corporation, are doing just that to America’s families.

“We’re being desensitized to every kind of evil imaginable,” declares Kennedy concerning what Disney and others in Hollywood are promoting.

He continues:
“There’s a little poem that puts it very well:

Vice is a monster of so frightful mien,
As to be hated needs but to be seen;
Yet see too oft, familiar with her face,
We first endure, then pity, then embrace. [Alexander Pope]”

“That’s desensitization. We’re being desensitized to the homosexual lifestyle, to pornography, to profanity, to blasphemy. We’re being desensitized to every kind of immorality. These [entertainment] programs compete with each other to find a more perverse, distorted arrangement to present before the public.”

“People are being deceived and misled. People are being desensitized to worse and worse things. I think somebody needs to call [the entertainment industry] on that.”

Kennedy is particularly disappointed that Walt Disney Corporation would go in this direction. He declares some of the product coming out of Disney so unthinkable it’s shocking.

“When the American public wakes up to what Disney is doing, they are going to be very offended,” Kennedy says.
