The Chinese got into a shooting war with the US when Stalin asked Mao to bail the Soviets out in the Korean War. Almost a million Chinese casualties later, China decided that was not happening again. Using Russia as a catspaw against the US is one thing, bailing out a failing Russia war effort is another. As far as China is concerned, Russia is a declining power that can be used to distract the US. Putin is showing that Russia isn’t even much good at that.
