Frei and Barnes

Take everything Barnes says about Ukraine this evening with a huge mountain of salt.  He has been tweeting pure Russian propaganda about the Ukraine War.  Very disappointing.

Viva seems of like mind with Barnes from the tweets I’ve seen.

Russian rulers have had a case of paranoia since 1919 when the allies sided with what was left of the royalist forces. Since then, they fear the West, especially Germany, is out to overthrow them. Unfortunately this attitude spreads to leftist sympathizers everywhere. Does not excuse their horrible and murderous behavior but goes a long way to explaining it.

What do either of them know about Ukraine? (This is a rhetorical question.)

I have been encouraging those who support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to live out their convictions & go join the Russian army at the front lines —so they can take a Ukrainian bullet. So far, there have been no takers.

Doesn’t help with Barnes’ credibility on other subjects if he’s this credulous (I am giving him a charitable interpretation) when it comes to Russia.

Yeah, 7,800 troops in Vladivostok a century ago is what’s driving this.

Since this is far outside the ken of their expertise and distant from where they live, I’m surprised Frei and Barnes would discuss this subject.

I have found there is a species of American conservative, usually of isolationist bent, who like “kick-butt” nationalist leaders (in other countries, of course). Pat Buchanan comes to mind. They see echos of Jackson, TR and MacArthur in the likes of Franco or Putin (or De Gaulle or Churchill), often decrying their particular political aims while admiring their “blood and soil” determination to achieve national purposes. The purpose of such “admiration” seems chiefly to warn their fellow Americans away from “foreign entanglements” and sympathies.

Christian Teacher: That works both ways. A supporter of Ukraine can go to the front and take a Russian bullet. Maybe Ukraine has the moral high ground? I am still not hearing why it is in the national interest of the United States to be involved in this tragedy. Becoming involved in this war may be Biden’s last best hope to survive the November elections. What’s our reaction if Mexico signs a mutual defense treaty with Russia?

VP Harris was supposed to stop this like southern border crossings.

“Becoming involved In this war . . . ” [!!!!!] CCP Joe’s handlers financed it [implemented Greta Thunberg, PhD macroeconomics] and green-lighted it.

OT. 1919! Maybe millions of Ukrainians are willing to give their lives for independence rather than get wasted in a 21st century repeat of the genocide Lenin and Stalin inflicted on them in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
