And the most disheartening thing is that I googled them and all the articles and quotes I found were approving. Approving of a government gloating about the hypothetical massive death of those deplorable citizens who do not follow every increasingly stupid advice from said government!
This administration appears to be channeling a deranged blue-haired woke twitterist. May God have mercy on us all.

Here’s a puzzle: why does Michigan get schlonged every time? The one wave they missed was the air conditioning wave in mid 2020. They got hit with a spring wave this year that the rest of the country missed. As we speak in the country at large, the death counts are running at 55% below last year’s, but in Michigan they’re a few % points off at best. How did Michigan get designated the Charlie Brown State?

Yesterday and this AM, you could not get near a first med or drug store to get tested.
We had a scare. We babysit for our grandchildren and our son was ‘exposed’ to two co-workers that tested pos. One has mild symptoms. The lovely granddaughter was coughing and had a temp as did our son. Yesterday the little girl was able to get a test and it came neg. This morning the son went two hours before the first med opened and his car was #17 in line. Three hours later he comes up neg.
Of course, like everything else from Big Brother, 99% of everything the Ministry of Truth told us about the China virus was a LIE.
Tiny Tony Fauxi has been at it over 40 years. Since he made sure everyone was terrified that they would die from AIDS – even though he and everyone knew only active sodomists, IV drug users and their victims/people that got unscreened blood were at risk.
I hear y’all, but that the unvaccinated have a much higher incidence of death or serious illness from COVID than the vaccinated is not fake science, but a simple fact. This alone does not justify mandates of course, but the refusal of so many self-described conservatives to get jabbed is just rank tribalism. The bad guys or for it, so I’m against it. The bad guys really are bad and that injures their credibility. All medical interventions are black boxes. The question is do you trust the box vendor.
They keep pushing the vaccine even though (1) people under the age of 45 hardly benefit from it unless they are morbidly obese or immune compromised. (2) for people under 25, the virus is not lethal except in very odd circumstances, so the actuarial calculation would suggest you not take it given that it’s a fairly dirty and haphazardly vetted product. (3) it is not sterilizing; there may be some positive externalities to being vaccinated or there may not be. (4) the same bad guys keep pushing masks, even know we know their benefit is somewhere between uncertain and none; Fauxci is pushing masks on airplanes in perpetuity, even though the air is extensively filtered on airplanes. (5) the medical establishment has been to date otiose about applying and developing therapeutics that assist people with COVID ‘ere they have to be hospitalized.
One thing those of us who are observers of gliberal and leftoid politics have noticed is that in our time its degenerated into status games. And, what happens with every aspect of adjustment to this pandemic? They turn it into a status game. Not all of them, but nearly all who are vociferous.

Maybe. But for the record, both my wife and I got two jabs AND we’ve both had the Coof. (Before the jabs.) We can’t trust people we should be able to trust, which may be the worst part of all this. Nearly everything we were told by the “experts” last Spring to talk us into getting the jabs has turned out to be false. Why should I believe them now, about anything? They don’t even act in accordance with the data they and their tax-supported organizations collect. Bah, humbug!
AND we’ve both had the Coof.
That’s another thing. The draft mandates take no account of people’s natural immunity. Again, what we know so far suggests natural immunity is more reliable than the vaccines.

My husband (65) and I (52) have not gotten vaccinated. (We live in MidMichigan.) I was holding out to NovaVax or the GSK. No longer. Neither one of us has been sick in two years–although my husband had a headache that lasted a week in Summer 2020, about the time our youngest got sick with a fever. I have been tested for antibodies twice (last time about a months ago). I have none.

As for remote dangers, this virus is nothing for people under 25, but we’re threatening soldiers and nurses with discharge for declining the vaccine. Either our institutional leaders are idiots or they have some hidden agenda.

This ailment should fade to nuisance status in the next couple of years, as it already appears to have done in Sweden. The answer is that their value is one half-ratchet above that of the social work profession. Oh, happy day.

You mean fat blacks in Detroit? Blacks accounted for about 25% of all COVID deaths in Michigan in 2020, but just 15% this year to date. I think about 14% of Michigan’s population is black. I can see how the public health situation among blacks could account for COVID deaths (say) 15% in excess of national means last year, but I’m not seeing that this year. Actual cumulative mortality rates in Michigan are not exceptionally elevated (about 10% above national means to date), but that may change when this winter is over and, again, the demographic thesis doesn’t cover why Michigan is in so much worse shape right now and why it had an unusual spring wave.
The states with the worst cumulative mortality include some with comparatively large black populations and some with very few blacks. I tend to doubt that’s a strong vector.

@ MIKE PETRIK: What the MD’s don’t acknowledge, that it isn’t probability per se that’s important but expectation value. It’s Pascal’s Wager in type: multiply the probability times the effect to get an expectation value for bad effects. multiply the probability of a bad case of the Wuhan flu (in its variants) x the effect of a bad case. Compare the expectation values to decide if you want to be vaccinated or not.

Or Latinos, or Indians, Middle Easterners, etc. We have a number of them as well. Also nursing homes–nursing homes do not tend to serve the most nutritious food, and the occupants don’t get out much.

But really, Vit D deficiency (not so severe as to be immediately obvious) is very, very common in the midwest, even among fair skin people. And we are a fat, sedentary bunch. The only other thing I can think of is the vaccine roll-out, which went pretty well as far as I can tell.

I’m not surprised, having taught–correct that, tried to teach–Radiology Residents and pre-meds basic elements of probability that they don’t appreciate the significant difference between probability and expectation value.

I know more folks who died, or were hospitalized, from the vaccination than I know people who required professional treatment for the Kung Flu.
That does not count the one definite miscarriage after a shot, nor does it count those where I didn’t hear about them getting sick from the vaccine because admitting to as much is inviting abuse.
In an office of sixteen people, healthy, male, ages 30-60, with at least a few waiting for religious exemptions, there is one whose negative reaction was so bad that nobody will give him a second shot (flatly told that if he’s going to try to force someone to give it to him, make sure he’s in the ER and his will is up to date), one who suddenly developed heart issues that don’t run in his family, two who had serious reactions, and three more who were so sick they missed a week’s work. (But that’s not a “serious reaction” by the standards put forward for judging it.)
The number of nurses who spent the last two years working with COVID patients and giving the shots who chose to be fired rather than get the COVID vaccine suggests that those nurses who testified to being discouraged from reporting complications were an accurate sample.
