Go Woke, Go Broke: Salvation Army Edition

Pro-tip:  do not insult your main pool of volunteers and donors.  I have been a volunteer bell ringer for decades.  I have never seen  a white rich liberal chunk in anything.  I have seen plenty of rough looking people of all colors dropping money in the kettle that looked like it was a sacrifice for them.  Once again, this is class warfare disguised as about race.  The people now in control of the Salvation Army are the same as the usual rich white elites who control almost all charities in this country, and reflect their prejudices and their fads, especially their hatred of whites lower on the economic scale than them.

It’s becoming really difficult to find any business, any organization that has not fallen into wokeness. The insane, evil, greedy, demonic have taken control.

It is also another variation on the theme of how elite intellectual corporate “smart” leadership can do things that are phenomenally stupid.

Or as the late Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR, once said in one of his talks (he was actually talking about how post V2, religious orders have been so often destroyed by their leadership), “To really screw things up, you have to be really smart. And to really, really, really screw things up, you have to be really, really, really smart.”

The Salvation army has egg on their faces. How does reverse racism make good sense?
It doesn’t.

My kettle money is going to the KofC to help purchase more imaging equipment to save babies from “reproductive health care,” planned parenthood style.

It has been over 20 years since the SA made headlines that attacked the organization for its stance on a homosexual issue. I no longer recall the specifics except that the SA eventually altered it’s webpage and quietly acquiesced.
SA officers that I knew personally, back in the late 60s, were sincere and well intentioned, but naive and gullible…ill prepared for the dysfunctional community I shared with them. A microcosm of the utter destruction of the family wrought by the newly imposed welfare statism.
Anyway, unlike last year when I gladly stuffed bills in the kettle, this year I walked on by that red kettle with not a twinge, wondering if the SA now, or would soon, have same sex married couples as resident officers overseeing their outposts.

‘ “Seven Nation Army” is characterized as an alternative rock, garage rock, blues rock and punk blues song with a length of three minutes and 52 seconds. According to sheet music published by Universal Music Publishing Group, it is composed in the key of E minor in common time with a tempo of 120 beats per minute. The title of the song comes from when Jack White, as a young child in Detroit, misheard “The Salvation Army” as “The Seven Nation Army”. ‘

I have never seen a white rich liberal chunk in anything.

People give off a certain vibe, but I suspect you’d discover your sense of things has a high error rate. The male faculty where I used to work were commonly slobs, appearing at work in Saturday lolligag-around-the-house clothes. The one I can recall who reliably put on a sport jacket was a pleasant old red who i’d wager does put some cash in the kettle.

The bell ringers have disappeared from my local groceries this year.

I’m going to wager wealthy people are common on the boards of corrupted philanthropies and pretty useless for ‘a that. I’m also going to wager the initiative for all this ruin is coming from the management rather than the board, and particularly from the younger set. The management of philanthropic organization is seldom wealthy. An exception would be hospitals. The doctor-bureaucrats who made it impossible for Paul Church to admit patients likely do have money in the bank.

And I disagree with Groeschel. One thing we are learning is the administrative class is populated with people who have exceedingly poor judgment and / or bad intentions when they are operating outside of very discrete specialties. (Which leads you to distrust them generally).

Not in Dwight, Illinois Art where I know most of the people with money,

You got 4,200 people, so that would be about 40 families with some assets. OK.

A microcosm of the utter destruction of the family wrought by the newly imposed welfare statism.

The attrition rate of marriages trebled in one twelve year period (1967-79). I’ll wager you that 85% of those who were the meat-and-potatoes of divorce lawyers never drew a dime off of Aid-to-Families-with-Dependent-Children and had only brief and episodic periods on the rolls of any other means tested program. The ‘welfare state’ isn’t why 40% of the children in this country are born out of wedlock; the vast majority of the parents will have little to do with ‘the welfare state’ until they are sick or old.

Did you catch this?

https://www.dailysignal.com/2021/06/07/my-woke-employees-tried-to-cancel-me-heres-how-i-fought-back-and-saved-my-nonprofit/

I was inclined to ask three questions as they weren’t answered in the text at all. (1) what sort of service do you provide?, (2) what was it about your hiring practices which gave you such a pool of problem employees?, and (3) why didn’t you just fire the clots?

Non profits in my experience attract the politically deranged like honey pollen draws bees.

In this day and age, yes. Is it really that difficult to smoke them out in an interview?

On a more practical level, their business plan depends on people shopping in stores with cash.

On a more practical level, their business plan depends on people shopping in stores with cash.

Which they continue to do, especially for groceries. That doesn’t explain why from one year to the next the volunteers manning the kettles disappeared.

All this talk about “equity” in outcome, we need “equity” in expectations.
Doing well in school, going to college or learning a trade, getting married before children, not doing drugs or getting involved in crime – should be expected of everyone.

The statement of the Salvation Army is disgusting; but, with the financial status of the Vatican being questionable, the Pope might want to take notice (doubtful). Most important, the Army position is wrong.
