The jury was picked yesterday which surprises me as I thought this process would take two or three days. Go here for an excellent summary of what occurred on the first day at The Law of Self Defense blog. I will link to a site to see the televised coverage when the trial gets under way again later today. First up, after they get the inevitable preliminary matters out of the way, will be the opening statements of each side. These are not supposed to be argument, but rather statements of what each side will attempt to prove during the course of the trial. I am normally restrained in my opening statement, so as not to give the other side too much of a peek at my trial strategy, surprise always being worth its weight in gold at a trial. Should be an interesting day.
Trial day 2 begins. Go here to watch live coverage.
Update:
12:32 PM-Opening statements are done. Defense counsel turned it into an opening argument and the Judge allowed him to. Quite a mismatch with the defense dominating this aspect of the trial.
Two things:
One, Self-defense.
Two, Where can I mail him my “Expert Marksman” badge?
Hah! Unfortunately, T.Shaw given some of the craziness of this case, you’ll probably have to wait as they’ve had to hide the kid a few times. If you’re on locals, you might be able to get ahold of Barnes and ask him.
I know I’ve heard Barnes discuss this before, but what’s the procedure if a fair trial is determined to be impossible?
