Skeptics used to attack this passage in Revelation as an impossibility. Hysteria, combined with Government power, causes impossibilities to become daily occurrences in our deluded times. We who recognize this as madness, and worse than madness, should recall another quotation from eighty-one years ago:

I have a Catholic neighbor, a good man who would deny to his last breath having any Leftist impulses or values. Yet, he is of an age and weight that he is freaked out about the black sniffles. In talking to him the other day, he was justifying any and all measures to eradicate the virus, including locking folks down again. When I pushed back, he became emotional and told me his entire family is currently at risk because someone sneezed on his wife at the grocery store. My only thought was that if her life depended on someone not accidentally sneezing on her at the grocery store, then maybe she shouldn’t go to the grocery store. Instead, he wants to justify all manner of tyranny because it makes him feel more secure.
F E A R is a powerful motivator, but unattractive especially to the young.
There are parishes near me that mandate a mask, semi mandate a mask and do not mandate a mask. The latter has many more younger persons and families, the former does not. I am left wondering if that is by design, or by action.

Apparently there are a lot out there who might say it, but they don’t really believe it. What they do we have to offer the lost? If we do not believe our Lord and King has defeated the enemy, who will then come to the church to follow Him? Well here Death stands, now, before us. Laughing as he reminds us he still rules over this world. Do we cower before him? Or do we face our fear with the God of angel armies on our side?

In all seriousness: anxiety is actually one of the “co-morbidities” for hospitalization and death. How many people died simply because they believed they would? Earlier today, I was watching YouTube Dr. Famous. He isn’t totally unreasonable, but when he said “If you haven’t had Covid yet, you will! So you better get vaccinated or you’ll land in the hospital!” Um…yeah…I know several elderly people who tested positive and did not land in the hospital. And several people with obesity who also didn’t land in the hospital. SMH.

Note that “If you haven’t had Covid yet, you will! So you better get vaccinated or you’ll land in the hospital!” doesn’t actually state that if you do get vaccinated then you won’t get COVID and won’t end up in the hospital. That’s how you are meant to take it certainly, but it is vague for plausible deniability later. Down the road he can say “I never claimed that the vaccine would be 100% effective or that it would definitely keep you out of the hospital. It’s to be understood that every vaccine fails sometimes, and some fail a lot of the time.”
