I don’t want to STOP crime, I want to FIGHT crime?
That’s what their “beat COVID” is like; they don’t want to deal with it, they want to beat it. The constant state of beating is needed, not rationally dealing with it.
Note how in the last couple of years the polite fiction of “we’re technically following the law, even though it may seem like our actions are wildly unconstitutional” is melting away. It’s more and more “we’re going to do this regardless of the law. What are you going to do about it?”
