Surprise!

Looks like Mrs. Gates came to this divorce loaded for bear.  It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.  My sympathies for the Gates children as their parents go to war.  There is a reason why I prefer to represent accused  in Class X felonies to being involved in a trench warfare dissolution.

Steven Job’s widow inherited his fortune. Bill Gate’s estranged wife will get at least half of his.

My wife and I have this up front deal: I make most of the money and she spends most of it. Seems to work. We’re happily married.

Ha David! That’s not a bad deal for your wife.

In all seriousness Melinda Gates is trying to get an annulment from the Catholic Church. After 27 years of marriage. And 3 adult children. And years of advocating for the contraception and sterilisation of women who haven’t same wealth and privilege as her.

She is now deciding she is Catholic. sigh

Tells you something about the other man for whom she’s aiming.

I never had a problem with Bill Gates. I always figured that a lot of the hatred directed at him was generic anti-rich sentiment, along with general anger at the blue screen of death. His charity work is more in quantity and comparable in quality with the average secular wealthy person. (That is to say, he could have spent some of the money on morally better causes but he did spend a lot.) I don’t know about any specific claims of dalliances or particular appalling consumption. I just heard a story about Jeff Bezos’s new yacht that has its own yacht, and I don’t remember hearing that kind of thing about Gates.

My understanding of Gates is that he has a history of being rude to subordinates (“that’s the stupidest idea you’ve ever had”) and that he’s been bareknuckled to the point of civil liability with some competitors (Netscape). He never struck me as having the kind of cold indifference to other human beings that Steven Jobs had and doesn’t strike me now as being up to the malicious tricks Bezos, Zuckerberg, Dorsey, and the Google crew have been pulling.

I want my Netscape back. Heck, I still miss my batch files and C prompt.

If you look through the Gates foundation’s work in various countries it always includes “family planning”, i.e. distribution of contraception and access to abortions. Melinda Gates in particular was not shy about saying that contraceptives should be the focus of anti-poverty efforts, see for example here:

As for the annulment I agree with the point that Art is (presumably) making that it is likely due to Melinda having set her sites on a Catholic man.

She not only disagrees with the Catholic Church on the matter of contraception, but she has made increasing contraceptive use worldwide her personal crusade. She also has repeatedly called for the Church to ordain women. So it’s clear that she isn’t concerned with following all the dogmas of the Church.

That’s not to say that she hates the Church or that she doesn’t view herself as Catholic. She consistently portrays herself as a “cultural” Catholic who thinks that the Church would be great if it just changed some teachings to be in alignment with her viewpoints. I don’t doubt that she does believe in God, for instance.

But people like that rarely care about annulments, and with the way that Melinda Gates has discussed contraceptives and “gender equity” in particular makes it likely that she also disagrees with the Church’s teaching on divorce. On top of that an annulment is absurd in her situation on the face of it, so even if she did agree with the teaching on divorce she still wouldn’t seek an annulment. The only situation that makes sense is that she got interested in a Catholic man who told her that he wouldn’t marry a divorced woman.

I find the younger generation are moving away from Microsoft applications (like Word and Excel), and are using Google applications more. All of my kids use Google Classroom or Google Slides to do their school work. Microsoft isn’t the main player in this space anymore. The Gates Foundation is an income source for them with tax benefits.

Rudolph –

“If you look through the Gates foundation’s work in various countries it always includes “family planning”, i.e. distribution of contraception and access to abortions.” – Yeah, and that’s about what I expect from the progressive rich type. They’d have no philosophical reason to separate contraception from the standard development formula of immunizations, education, et cetera. He’s put a lot of resources into development in general.

“But people like that rarely care about annulments…” – That may be true, but I don’t know it’s true from experience, so I’m not confident about the assumption.

Were the Gateses married in the Catholic Church? Did they both have the intention and state of mind to make it a sacramental marriage? Some of their “charitable” work involved involuntary sterilization of women in Africa. It is dismaying that she and other apostates and heretics like her “identify” as Catholic. Why not confess and repent first?

KMBOLD,

My thoughts exactly. Their money & “charity” has been used in poor countries to help destroy Christianity by basing aid on the acceptance/practice of things that are NOT Christian. If what I have read is correct, some of their work has been down right evil.

Our public education system will never recover from the Gates’ Foundation Common Core push.

KMBOLD,
Confession & repentance require an understanding of guilt connected to sin & a sincere desire to go God’s direction rather than our own. None of which Melinda Gates would be able to do if she is seeking to get the church to annul her marriage because she has the hots for another man besides her husband. So now, she has decided that her 3 grown children & any grandchildren are illegitimate? This woman sounds like a moral ignoramus.

I think so, and I believe to accommodate Melinda. (Somewhere I think I read that mama-bear Gates had her family enrolled at an Episcopal parish; her son isn’t the sort to pay attention to anyone suggesting he be reverent and reflective, but, by all accounts, he was someone to avoid hurting his mother).

I just looked around online and found a picture of their wedding, with some clergyman at the front.
