And Don, I never read his books, but “back in the day” he used to write some pretty good stuff for the WSJ. At least I thought so at the time. I should probably try to find some of it now and re-read it in light of later developments.

Rubin I think is just insane, but grifter fits Boot and Kristol to a T. Kristol’s attacks on conservatives over the years for not being true blue conservatives now have a retrospective comic patina.

Speaking for myself, I have become far less hawkish over the past seven years. The writing of Boot’s that I liked back in the day embodied neo-conservatism’s foreign adventurism. For me, it has aged liked milk. But your mileage may vary.

I disagree. She’s a shrewish mercenary hack, and always has been. Even in her officially Republican phase, she would alternate between smarm and shiv with calculated determination.
She’s a second-tier courtier who can’t bear being too far away from the humming bulb of power. And she will say anything to preserve her orbital status.
I cannot help but think that with the NeverTrumpers (especially these three) that there must be some 10th planet influencing them that I haven’t identified.
I truly feel sorry for Biden – so old and infirm that he falls down stairs and can’t utter a coherent phrase. This is elder abuse – keeping him propped up there in the Oval Office like John Gill as the Führer on the planet Ekos when the USS Enterprise came to visit. See Patterns of Force. I have said that before and got poo-pooed. But I think to a certain limited extent the analogy holds. Gill had become a drugged and mentally incompetent figurehead as leader while Deputy Führer Melakon and his people ran the show, including a campaign to destroy sister planet Zeon in a Final Solution, something the liberal progressives who are really in power want to do to all us conservative Christians. Where is our resistance leader (Chairman Eneg) and fighters like Isak (an underground resistance member) and Daras (the pretty young lady who infiltrated the regime in power)? Or for that matter, will there be external intervention by a Capt. Kirk and his crew? Likely not. Rather, today’s OT reading – Jeremiah chapter 21 – will become our story.

I am just as hawkish as I have ever been. Glad we toppled the Taliban in 2001 and Saddam in 2003. Never been a fan of nation building in the Middle East which leads to forever wars. Our model in that part of the world should be Royal Navy coastal landings of the 19th and early 20th centuries which, in those un-pc days, they called Butcher and Bolt raids. Substitute drones for men whenever possible. Trump’s strategy in making peace between Israel and her Arab enemies while drawing down our troop strength in the Middle East, and striking hard when we had to, struck me as being effective.

I don’t believe that nevertrumpes like Boot believe what they are saying, nor do I believe that they intend to fool people most people by saying it. Maybe they’ll fool the idiots that only listen to them for information, but the failure of the Lincoln Project to do anything (except cover up for child molesters, apparently) shows that there aren’t too many people that rely on them.
Instead it’s lying to show their allegiance top the new order. All they are trying to convince you of is that the smart and civilized people also accept the lie. All of their rhetoric is based around Trump supporters being idiotic hicks and their opponents being cool and sophisticated.
Everyone in The Emperor’s New Clothes could see that the emperor was in fact naked. They just saying so would make people think they were idiots.
