The Chinese Government today named President Xi Jinping as the next Pope of the Catholic Church. In a secret codicil to the Vatican-China deal, China was given the right of appointment for all future Popes of the Catholic Church. Former Pope Francis has retired to Hong Kong and is currently incommunicado. Pope Xi Jinping promptly announced the following initiatives:
- All future sermons of Catholic clergy will support socialism as defined by the Chinese government.
- A portrait of Pope Xi Jinping will be above the altar of each Catholic Church.
- New Bibles will be issued cleansed of passages inimical to the Chinese government.
- All old Bibles will be publicly burned.
- The death penalty is being reinstituted in the Vatican State for whatever offenses the Pope deems is merited.
- All KofC fish fries in Lent will now feature lots of rice.
In an interview with a Chinese state-run publication, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin welcomed the opportunity for China and the Holy See to work together to “build a more secure and prosperous world.”
“The prospect opens up that two ancient, great and sophisticated international entities – like China and the Apostolic See – may become ever more aware of a common responsibility for the grave problems of our time,” Parolin said in an interview with the Global Times published May 12.
The Global Times is an English-language newspaper owned by the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The cardinal told the state-owned paper that “inculturation,” a Catholic missionary practice, and “sinicization,” a Chinese government campaign, can be “complementary” and “can open avenues for dialogue.”
“Inculturation is an essential condition for a sound proclamation of the Gospel which, in order to bear fruit, requires, on the one hand, safeguarding its authentic purity and integrity and, on the other, presenting it according to the particular experience of each people and culture,” he said.
Reaction in the Catholic world was mixed. Archbishop Vigano, before he was seized and taken to a re-education camp in China, said, “Do you believe me now you bloody fools?”. Mark Shea released a post stating that the magisterium was the magisterium and that Chinese Communism was obviously the best exemplar of Catholic Social Teaching in today’s world. Cardinal Cupich said that he hoped to inform on report to the new Pope on the loyalty of American bishops to the new state of affairs. Cardinal Burke is thinking about releasing a critical statement. Our Sunday Visitor is now being printed in Mandarin Chinese. Father Mateo Ricci in Heaven reportedly said, Are you people down there all on drugs?

The link from lasalette.org described the pectoral cross and named the artist that designed it. Never any mention of the backward turned leg. Is there a dark message there or was the artist born with that deformity? It gets curiouser and curiouser. Like the Pope using what appears to be a stang.

The Church hierarchy needs a remedial class on Christ’s Temptations in the Wilderness. Christ rejected the very worldliness that the Church hierarchy is currently in the process of embracing.
To me the Church hierarchy is acting more like bureaucrats than shepherds. The USCCB as bureaucracy, Bishop Gregory as the bureaucrat’s bishop in the diocese of bureaucracy. The Vatican as bureaucracy. Biden as the president of the bureaucracy. Bureaucrats of a feather flocking together. The relationships appear to be incestuous.
