Friend of the blog HW Crocker III has a nice piece up on Catholic Thing.  Go here to read it.  As well as an historian, Mr. Crocker is also a novelist, and I highly recommend his novels. As he notes in his article, the parable of the prodigal son explains many of the problems confronting the West today. Whoring after false gods is every a temptation and a deadly snare.
