This is good to see. He was one I discovered in my Protestant days, and one of the reasons they ended up being my Protestant days, as in the past. As an Evangelical pastor, I admit we often giggled at Catholic priests for a lack of, shall we say, preaching prowess. I know there are some, but it’s not their trademark since the homily in the Mass occupies a different position and purpose than the sermon in an Evangelical service. But I remember seeing old reruns of him for the first time when I was in seminary and being blown away by them. I would even take notes while I watched him for pointers in my own sermons. To this day I can remember some of them and some of what he said.
My wife and I are blessed to be able to attend this today. Looking forward to it, although the introvert in me is dreading the crowd of 50,000.
