My Bride and I and our son saw Young Washington (2026) yesterday. We all loved the film and I strongly recommend it. It is a very good movie and true to history. Full review to follow when I have time. In the meantime, here is a decent review by Ben Shapiro.
I am interested how George’s mother is portrayed in the movie. In the CDs of a Washington bio Mary Ball Washington wants her son to stay on the farm even though she had other sons to help. Though he loved his mother George had a mind of his own.
The Northern Neck of Virginia is where Washington was born. Westmoreland County and Fredericksburg are worth a family trip to visit where the Balls and Washingtons lived. Mt Vernon plantation on the Potomac River near Alexandria is also a must to tour.
Mary Washington makes a brief appearance. She could be a pill at times. She would live to be eighty dying just before her son began his first term in 1789. Washington was always a dutiful son and always patiently listened to her advice, although he rarely took it. An interesting historical figure in her own right.
