Until the Civil War the American Revolution was the major event in American history. It established the nation and what we stand for as a people. The War lasted for eight years, and was desperately fought until Yorktown. Washington called it a standing miracle that the Americans emerged victorious and I completely agree with his statement. This nation was born in strife in an against the odds fight. It has left a mark on this country that will endure as long as there is a United States, and may that be until Judgment Day.

“King Philip’s War remains (one of the highest) per capita of any war in colonial or U.S. history. Philip’s warriors killed at least 5% of the colonists and burned around 1,200 homes. His forces attacked over half of southern New England’s 90 settlements, destroying 12 of them. “
David WS, Thanks, never heard of King Philips War before. I did stop at Deerfield MA on a road trip from lower Vermont to Virginia. My father’s older sister stated that we had ancestors living there at the time of the February 1703-4 Deerfield Massacre. She claimed that the Indians got over the stockade and that was the reason most of the family have high cheek bones. I haven’t looked at any family papers to sustain her story.
Deerfield Museum’s exhibits were well done. I couldn’t resist sending family members post cards. The French and Indians captured many villagers. Eighty five survived the 300 mile march to Montreal. Some assimilated and some were ransomed and were returned to Massachusetts.
