Beta types generally dislike the Archangel for all the obvious reasons.

When true colors turn out to be septic brown.

Knowing them by their fruits….

Yeah. We get it.

“It is funny how mortals always picture us as putting things into their minds: in reality our best work is done by keeping things out….”
C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

a visceral reaction to St Michael means this man is in dire need of Deliverance.

Yes, nothing should be jarring or unpleasant in prayer or the liturgy. All powder puffs and pillows.

Meanwhile….
“The Society of Saint Pius X sent Leo XIV and the cardinals a profession of Catholic faith on the eve of the consistory and days before the July 1 episcopal consecrations at Écône.”

remind me again what did Pope Leo XIII see in a Vision and Why did he formulate a prayer to St Michael!?

Jarring.

Well, what I find jarring is the sign of peace.

Focus on the Son in transubstantiation
Focus on the Father in the Our Father
*Focus on Bob and Sylvia in pew behind you*
Focus on the Son in Agnus Dei
Focus on the Son in Communion

I’m not just saying this…I find it jarring every time we don’t say the St. Michael Prayer at the end of Mass. I’m blessed to attend at a parish that says it nearly every time. Maybe 10% of the Masses end with a procession or something, or we have a visiting priest who doesn’t say it, and it throws me off my game. Maybe Davis isn’t used to it, which is why he finds it jarring when it happens unexpectedly? But that doesn’t explain his genuine distaste for the prayer itself. Weird.
