Something for the weekend: Roll, Alabama, Roll, a 19th century sea shanty about the exploits of the commerce raider, CSS Alabama.  The above version was recommended to me by friend of the blog, author and historian H.W. Crocker III. I heartily recommend all of his books, but especially his magnificent history of the Church, Triumph, updated and expanded in 2023. It is the Church history for people who normally fall asleep reading other histories of the Church.
The commerce war waged at sea is one of the under covered areas of the Late Unpleasantness and awaits a historian worthy of the subject.
A terrific sea shanty. There is a more traditional version of it on Youtube. As with most sea shanties it doesn’t have a happy ending. As to be expected considering the subject matter.
