In some ways, this may be worse. The case could be made that Francis never returned to Argentina to avoid arrest or some related fate. Leo doesn’t want to return just because there is a loathing of America.
HOWEVER… Should the next D win the presidency in 2028 and Leo is still in the Chair of Peter, I bet he visits by April of 2029.
Real incomes in Argentina are similar to those in the United States in the 1940s, when traveling abroad was rare outside of military service. I doubt his siblings were traveling to Italy to visit him.
It’s likely that a conservative will be President of Peru by the time of the Pope’s trip … Might make for an interesting visit.
Folks, Pope Bob marched with communists against his own country’s deterrence to counter Soviet communist installation of SS-20 intermediate range nuclear ballistic missiles in Warsaw Pact countries and he NEVER protested against what the communists had done. He has loathed his own country from the very beginning as much as that apostate Jew loathed the Mosaic Law in 1st Maccabees chapter 2 – the one who came forward in the sight of all to offer pagan sacrifice on the altar in Modein, according to the Seleucid king’s command. Anything more I have to say will result in censorship because I for one loathe him as much as he loathes the Republic that I (and my shipmates) served in the nuclear submarine force while he was marching against that service. May God Almighty depose and anathematize him and all his works.
Trump has said he doesn’t think it’s necessary to meet with Leo to talk out their differences. If they met, I think it’d be a disaster. So maybe he could do an event in San Jose on the way back from Central America or something, but a full trip here would be a bad idea.

I am not making excuses for him. You would think that, withost of the Holy See funded by Americans, he would be more in tune with the USA.. Nope.
Should he excommunicate the SSPX for ordaining bishops….a violation of a 1917 church law…while letting Germany go and continuing to approve of Beijing appointing bishops in China…then the Holy Father comes across as the hypocrite.
The Pope doesn’t need to approve every episcopal appointment. This is a control freak measure.
