My Bride, my son and I saw the movie Pressure last Saturday. I enjoyed it. It was a good retelling about how storms almost derailed the D-Day Invasion, causing it to be postponed from June 5 to June 6. It is an interesting look at a non-expert, General Eisenhower, forced to make a huge decision when the experts he is relying upon give him conflicting advice. Brendan Fraser doesn’t look much like Ike, or sound much like him, but he captured the common sense and courage of Eisenhower when it came to making big decisions. I appreciated that they mentioned in the film that Ike prepared an order taking full responsibility if the D-Day landings had been thrown back into the sea.
The film kept up the suspense until the actual landings, even for someone like me who is quite aware of the history. An especially good film for families with teen age children to see. Remind them of what this country can accomplish, with God’s grace, when we put our minds and bodies to a task.
