Something for the weekend. From the movie Raid on Entebbe (1977). Israeli soldiers sing the song Hine Ma Tov (Psalm 132) Note the very young James Woods. A not so young Charles Bronson portrays the General who had overall command of Operation Thunderbolt. The raid occurred on July 4, 1976 which I thought at the time was appropriate as the daring Israeli rescue of the hostages over such a vast distance struck me as a very sort of American thing to do.
I often think that the single most corrosive event, that had the most profound negative effects for the world, was the hostage taking of the PLO at the Olympics. That was the blueprint given to terrorists, and ever since, and they’ve followed it completely.
I was familiar with it but I knew none of the details. I watched the movie earlier tonight. A pretty good movie. So many now familiar names and familiar actors for those people. It puts the actions of today’s leaders into context.
