Our guide through Lent this year will be Bishop Fulton Sheen.
Through Lent With Bishop Sheen
- Donald R. McClarey
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Why don’t priests just defer to Fulton Sheen for each Avent and Lent. So few priests are good homilists and this guy is Golden and timeless. No new sins, just new sinners like me.
I am aware that, in other times in history, many good priests would read the homilies of the saints instead of feeling they had to be “relevant” and cobbling together their own – with mixed results.
I have, however, never seen it done.
I think it is a good idea, especially after the rambling sermon deliver at Mass today.
