S. Collette (d. 1447) was of course the reformer of the women’s Franciscan Order (“Second Order”), forming what has become known as the “Poor Clares.”

In one of the great twists of history, her charter of reform of the Order was actually granted by Antipope Benedict XIII of Avignon, Pedro Martínez de Luna y Pérez de Gotor, during the years 1406-1412, so that she eventually was enabled to found over a dozen monasteries throughout France and present-day Belgium. Her reform remains vital and quietly growing today.
