In all seriousness, though, there are a fair number of people obsessed with artificially improving their appearance. (I have heard stories of a person’s dating app photo being so dissimilar to their actual appearance that it tanked the date.)
It is a symptom of our society’s increasing comfort with lies. A lie led to the Fall, a tragedy that we still have not recovered from. Yet somehow lies are widely considered to be “no biggie.”

I hadn’t heard he had departed the VA. He has seemed closer to a normal adult than Renee Ganger, with problems in living of a familiar sort for a man born in 1988. The statements of his family suggest he was marinated in a certain sort of bourgeois contempt as a youth, but perhaps that’s making too much of the ill-considered things people say under stress.

I believe Sean Connery playing Officer Jimmy Malone in the film The Untouchables had something to say about the use of a gun in a fight. The unspoken implication being that if you don’t want to fight, don’t bring the gun.

The problem is mixing it up with the police. At this point, it looks like a less-justifiable shooting than the Good tragedy. But there may be more evidence forthcoming.
That, and Kristi Noem needs to be put out to pasture. Her mouth running ahead of her brain is clearly a feature, not a bug. Glad Homan is in charge in Minnesota now.

Now I am hearing that he was still working for the VA. However, I am also hearing that he broke a rib in a confrontation with ICE a week ago, which might have caused him to take time off. I am taking down the alleged statement of the parents as it may be one of many fabrications floating around about Pretti.
Dale, as a South Dakotan, I will tell you that Noem is the dumbest politician I’ve ever seen. She was actually pretty unpopular in South Dakota, barely winning her first election, but when Covid hit she refused to shut down to the extent that other states did, and she supported Trump and stood up to rioters in Sioux Falls in 2020. Nearly everything else she did as governor has been a disaster.

Pretti was clearly a man possessed by out of control anger. I think he seized upon the anti-ICE riots as a way to let some of his anger out. Always a potentially lethal mistake to let out anger by targeting armed cops.

Not under MN law. When he walked out his door without ID or his CC card, he was carrying illegally.
In my state, if you have a CC license & come across a LEO while you are carrying—you must identify yourself as having a CC license & let them know that you have a gun on you, immediately.
While he should have stated that he was carrying, I will not readily concede that Minnesota law complies with the Second Amendment. But yes he should have raised his hands and announced he was carrying. Standard CC practice. Everyone wants to go home safely, as a wise CCP friend of mine says.
However, the failure to carry the permit is a nothingburger. If MN law is compliant with the Second Amendment, the failure to have the card can be remedied by later proof of a valid card and easy retrieval of your confiscated weapon.
Don’t be so eager to concede your rights just because the “wrong” people may be violating them.
Nearly everything else she did as governor has been a disaster.
