Not a word about his sorrow for wages being depressed through the flood of illegal aliens under Biden, the increase in crime that has followed in the wake of this flood, or the increases in taxes needed to pay for the multitude of government services for said illegals. As far as he is concerned if you complain about such things you are nothing but a bigot. Too many clerics like him act like wolves rather than shepherds, and the falling away of so many Catholics in this nation becomes more understandable. To be fair, Sample is far from the worst. He was appointed by Pope Benedict and has given occasional signs of orthodoxy. But on this issue the clerics are light years away from the average parishioner. Christ is always the supreme reason to stay, but it helps if clerics do not ill conceal the contempt they have for so many of the laity.

Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.

Good to know that the Church has changed its teaching about the requirement to render unto Caesar by obeying just laws. The next law I don’t like, I can disregard with an easy conscience.
Know an American citizen who goes back to Guatemala often and is thinking of retiring there.
This acting up by bishops is self serving and frankly disgusting.
My first thought:
Speaking as someone af Hispanic heritage… it’s very insulting that the bishop here implies that we are likely or probably illegal just because we are Hispanic… or that Hispanics are by default illegal…
Very disappointed in Sample. As you noted, Donald, he has shown signs of being a real bishop, ie., a real shepherd and teacher of Truth. Now the mask is off, and we find he is no better than the rest of the grifters with miters and croziers.
😟
This is unfair to Archbishop Sample, he is a true man of God who is doing the best he can under trying circumstances. Notice he says nothing about stopping the arrests, or how there should be resistance to ICE. All he is saying is that members of his flock, who he is responsible to, should be treated with God given dignity. It is something I agree with. We can agree to disagree on this point. Hey, I still enjoy the site even though I disagree with you at times!
That’s OK Matt. I disagree with me sometimes!
Fair enough, Matthew. Still, I will be watching for Abp. Sample’s pastoral letter to all the people in Portland whose jobs, property, and businesses have been destroyed by the Antifa-led mobs that now rule parts of the city, while the local government and Church leaders sit by, in silence.
Preparing for winter in a northern state where you might die if you go outside without a coat on, wondering if the USCCB actually thinks carbon dioxide is a pollutant….
I’m old enough to remember when bishops spoke on moral issues, not climate change and open borders.

Thank you Donald McClarey. The parishioners gave to Peter’s Pence. The donation paid for a sex orgy in the Vatican. My former Diocese in N. J. the Metuchen Diocese paid $180,000 to two of McCarrick’s boyfriends.
How do we know that our donations will be used to help even the illegal invaders?
Ask the bishop.
Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore: “Do not interrupt the flow of money”
The Lavender Mafia at the Vatican ought to get jobs like their parishioners working in blood, sweat and tears.
As disruptive as illegal immigration is here, an examination of what is happening in some European countries is much worse. Example; over half the new borns in Germany are to non-German families. About the same in England and probably soon in the rest of Great Britain. Islam was unsuccessful in military conquest but appears to have found another way.
“It does not matter whether some of our brothers and sisters have proper documentation or not. They are our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ, and have a human dignity that comes not from government, but from our loving God.”
Its like saying it does not matter if the property you have was the result of your hard work and payment for such goods, or whether you stole it. You still have human dignity.
That’s true, but one is a moral good and one is a moral evil. One which the state can correct in justice.
How about the moral decay epidemic in Portland? Not a word. It doesn’t matter if they are here legally or not? What a maroon!
No one’s human dignity is injured if they’re subject to a 7.5 minute hearing and sent back to their home country on the next plane out. If there is any ‘anxiety’ in his ‘congregations’, it’s because some of his parishioners have been harboring relatives they know perfectly well are here contrary to law. If he does not object to “ICE activity” – i.e. law enforcement – what is the purpose of his first paragraph.
Abp. Sample fancies anyone should be able to walk across the border with impunity. IOW, this is just terra incognita. Meanwhile, another sample of our professional-managerial class pulls stunts like this:

Yes, the two were employees of Colorado State University at the time and one now has a tenure-track position at the University of Wyoming.
After slaughtering Abel Cain said to God:” You cannot punish me; I have human dignity.”
Well said. Add that he says not a word about the 300,000 missing children, sex trafficking, criminality – among our “brothers and sisters in Christ”. Does he mean to include the Muslims, Taoists and atheists among them in that characterization? Sheesh – what gaslighting!
I’ve heard lots of talk about mistreatment of “The Undocumentedâ„¢” from leftists … but I haven’t seen footage of any. I have seen footage of lots of ICE agents being attacked in Portland these days simply for doing their jobs … Maybe a Homily about it tomorrow?
It seems to me that all a Bishop has to do these days is toss around a secula seculorum now and again and many folks on the right will automatically give them a pass.
