I will order them to make up a force and go out to follow Forrest to the death, if it costs ten thousand lives and breaks the treasury. There never will be peace in Tennessee until Forrest is dead! -General William Tecumseh Sherman.
What to serve them would be a problem. Sherman had chronic digestive problems. My Bride whips up a mean selection of Spanish tapas eats and that might be the solution, allowing them to pick and choose. Plenty of black coffee with milk and sugar available on the side. Perhaps rice pudding or a custard for desert.
Might do it at my law mines in the conference room. Plenty of room to spread out maps on the conference table if needed.
I would have topics of conversation prepared, but after initial pleasantries I think the two old soldiers might be more interested in talking with each other than with me.

I agree with your choice of dinner guests. Listening to their conversation would be all I would need to hear. Thank you Donald.

You can sit in the next room and record the whole thing with a Webcam, right? 😁
Frank,
Only if you make sure that they didn’t have swords or side arms. They both had pretty choleric personalities.
For dessert, might I suggest flan?
Unfortunately, Sherman’s attitudes and actions after the Civil War toward Native Americans were nothing to commend his character.
Sherman’s character was simple. In peace good will. Take up arms against his nation and he was the worst of enemies. He largely brought the Plains Indian wars to a successful conclusion. He spoke out against speculators and government agents who preyed upon Indians on reservations. Sherman of course never set government policy, having an abhorrence of politicians and resolutely refused to accept any nomination to be President.
