Many saints have come out of the persecution of the Ottoman rule. Blessed Leonard Melki and the Christians of Mardin is a mention.

Others lived the tough life endured under Turkish oppression. St Charbel Maklouf father died as a result of being worked to the ground by Turkish soldiers.

St Ignatius Maloyan is venerated in Lebanon. The Lebanese President and First Lady attended the Canonisation. Armenian refugees have a long history in Lebanon after fleeing Genocide. And unlike the Palestinian Muslim refugees they brought a value to their adopted country. Not burden. And so are respected because of this.

By the way Queen Rania of Jordan recently made a snide remark to Pope Leo (during an audience) about his upcoming visit to Lebanon. She quipped “do you think it’s safe?”. Without a heartbeat and without even looking at her he fired back “Well, we’re going, so.” 😂
