How much did this design change cost the income-depleted Vatican?
“vicar of Francis” uniform ?
Since the Swiss Guard are all trained soldiers, I think anyone tackled by one (regardless of uniform) wouldn’t enjoy the “comedy”.
When you can’t deal with real problems, change the furniture and the drapes.
$2300 per uniform.
How many people work in the Vatican? About half (and dropping).
**$2300 per uniform.**
Ouch.
Who designed it? Armani?
Apparently, this uniform replaces another, tuxedo-like,, recent issue one that is only worn for banquets and similar events. If I read my source aright, their usual glorious array will be seen elsewhere as always.
Another connection to the past severed. Pretty soon they will be telling us there was no real Church existence before Vatican II. Wait! They already say the past is irrelevant.
This is a secondary uniform for smaller events, and ones outside of the Vatican. The Renaissance era ones will still be worn.
Didn’t President Nixon have White House guards in an operetta uniform similar to the new Swiss guard uniform. It didn’t last long. I’m hoping the new Vatican uniform does not last either. No tradition connected to this new one. I’m thinking of the Beefeaters who guard the Tower of London and the King’s Guards at Buckingham Palace. These are all military units who are up to date with modern arms.
My great-great grandmother was very proud of her ancestor who was a Swiss Guard.
I don’t know how warm the traditional uniforms get in the Roman summer but the the black or dark navy new uniform can’t be any cooler.
