Color Me Shocked

If there is a lunatic idea popular on the Left, rest assured that Jesuits and Jesuit affiliated people will be involved.

When I was a freshman at my Jesuit college, I naively walked into a meeting of a bunch of rabid Marxists because they had a friendly sounding “Justice” title or something like it.

In those days we got free copies of the NY Times delivered to campus, and the group was debating whether to protest the presence of the “white capitalist establishment” on campus because of said delivery of the Times. In the corner was one of the Jesuits chiming in. I was pretty conventionally liberal (late-era Clinton administration) but that was a bit much. I politely excused myself and left.

This guy posted is just the heir (literally or spiritually) to the nonsense I was seeing 25 years ago. Nothing has changed. Just more hardened.

Even after however many years of wandering in the wilderness the Francis papacy was, I can think of only two Jesuits I trust. The others traded in the armor of God from Ephesians 6:11-12 for lavender underwear.

Maybe David Bukowski needs to find a proper job which contributes to society. People with too much time on their hands and lacking a purpose tend to spiral into this.

I am not familiar with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and what they are up to. From the looks of it, they are up to no good.

On the other hand, I am quite familiar with the FOCUS Missionaries and our local Newman Center. FOCUS is the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, and they are active at my parish, which is across the street from the University of Akron, and which is home to its Newman Center. We parishioners are very pleased they have all found a home with us.

Rather than engaging in abrasiveness/divisiveness and promoting anti-Catholic issues, our university students, the Newman Center, and the FOCUS missionaries – who actively support the students on campus in remaining close to our Faith – are busy feeding the poor in our parish hunger programs, being of practical assistance at the parish, praying the Rosary in front of the abortion clinic, armed with a life-sized banner of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and assisting at daily and weekend Masses. They are joyful and a great blessing for us.

We are in the Midwest, and not on the Coasts, so maybe we are not as trendy as the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. But I will welcome and support our students *any* time over the JVC.

in the mid 80s I went away to Franciscan U Steubenville. A fellow member of our Parish Youth Group went to a Jesuit college and then joined Jesuit Volunteer corps. over break, Christmas or summer, she came back and let it be known “I’ve changed. I think differently. It’s different now.” I said, “hmm, well, let’s meet the group at Mass and grab some dinner.” She said, “no, you don’t understand. I’m different now.”
