Burn of the Day

Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.

In 2022, Russia arrested 411 people because they had made social media posts that displeased government censors. In that same year, the UK government arrested 3,300 for making social media posts deemed ‘offensive’.
Take a moment to let those numbers sink in.
Now in 2025 the UK government is averaging 30 arrests *per day* for social media posts deemed ‘harmful’ or ‘offensive’, according to the London Times. The newer laws restricting social media speech criminalize speech causing “annoyance” or “anxiety”. Since those terms are so vague— and almost anything could be considered a violation—it’s no wonder that so far this year the government is on track to have arrested 11,000 people for BadSpeak.
It’s unbelievable that Russians currently have more freedom of speech than the British, but that’s how far the UK has fallen.
Small Britain since they started killing Catholics.
A glimmer of hope;
BIRMINGHAM (19 August 2024) – In a victory against UK censorship, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce – the Christian charitable volunteer who was seen being arrested twice for praying silently in viral videos – has received a payout of £13,000 from West Midlands Police in acknowledgement of her unjust treatment, and the breach of her human rights.
With support from ADF UK, Vaughan-Spruce issued a claim against West Midlands Police for two wrongful arrests and false imprisonments; assault and battery in relation to an intrusive search of her person; and for a breach of her human rights both in respect to the arrests, and to the onerous bail conditions imposed on her.
“There is no place for Orwell’s ‘thought police’ in 21st Century Britain, and thanks to legal support I received from ADF UK, I’m delighted that the settlement that I have received today acknowledges that. Yet despite this victory, I am deeply concerned that this violation could be repeated at the hands of other police forces.”

You can add most of the rest of the countries of the British Commonwealth to the list that have lost their minds and certainly their way. First they went Protestant and then they went tyrannical. Canada and Australia come immediately to mind. Not a single American son should die to save them from the Russian bear or the Chicoms.
“And so Britons do become slaves, not with a bang but a whimper….”
I still have money on the Scotch and the Irish..
In the UK yesterday, a woman was arrested again for silently praying in her head in an abortion zone. This marks her 3rd time. After the last time, the police department had to offer her an apology, yet they have arrested her again.
I get the same feeling about his contention in re the Vances that you get about Jon Oliver presentations: that it could never survive an audit.

Public opinion surveys (for what they’re worth) indicate as we speak that patriotic parties are now holding pluralities in public sentiment in Germany France, Britain, and Italy. The same is true in some less populous European countries like the Netherlands and Austria. (The political class in Eastern Europe is not as yet promoting population replacement). Not enough, but at least a quarter of the public in these countries is fed up. Hoping it isn’t a day late and a dollar short.
One other thing. In 2002, the utterly cynical Jacques Chirac defeated Jean Marie Le Pen in France’s presidential runoff by a margin of 4.5 to 1. One of Mr. Chirac’s aides back then is a political chameleon named Edouard Philippe, who is as we speak Davos’ best shot at retaining the Presidency in France. The surveys show he has no better than a fifty-fifty shot of defeating Jordan Bardella, the nationalist candidate. The principal Marxist candidate is a man named Jean Luc Melenchon. He’s box office poison and would lose to Bardella by a margin of nearly 2 to 1. The establishment in France for three decades persuaded people that a vote for the nationalists was a badge of vulgarity. The spell is broken. Most of the Davos voters (about 30% of the electorate) will take Bardella over Melenchon.
“Canada and Australia come immediately to mind. “
Hold up now. Australians are not doormats to authority which oversteps the line to freedom of speech and religion. Look at this brave fella, he wouldn’t budge.

Jimmys Falafel (owned by Justin Hemmes who is a Jewish Hotelier) refused customers to enter their establishment wearing the Keffiyeh (Palestinian scarf). Nobody shut it down. They exercised their right to refuse entry by those wearing political flags or garments. A restaurant is private property.
The law works when this happens:

David WS, I do hope you are right.
And I must add, “Scotch” is whisky. People of Scotland properly are called “Scots” or “Scottish.”
Thank you. 😊
Thanks Frank. I’d just woken. And it’s definitely whisky, not whiskey.

Last August, in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg admitted that during the COVID pandemic Biden administration officials pressured Facebook to censor and “moderate” posts. Later, in an interview on the Joe Rogan podcast he referred to the Biden officials’ demands as “something out of 1984” and expressed regret for caving to them.
In a very recent live interview on CNN, the grotesque and amoral Hillary Clinton declared that social media platforms need to “moderate and monitor” content posted by Americans. She singled out Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok as vehicles to enforce the government’s so-called “moderation”. At one point in the live broadcast the odious Ms. Clinton noted that, in her opinion “If media doesn’t moderate content, then we lose total control”.
“… then we lose total control”. Just who is this “we” you’re talking about, Hillary? And why should they, or anyone, have “total control”?
“Most of the Davos voters (about 30% of the electorate) will take Bardella over Melenchon.”
That’s promising. Le Pen, I don’t think, will win on appeal. If Bardella can win public favour, with Le Pens endorsement, then he should have a good shot. Just goes to show that the woman was a real threat to the course the socialist were taking France on, and the only way they could “get her” was through some trumped up charges of “embezzlement”….and manipulate the facts to get a guilty verdict. If you read some reports, the courts twisted themselves into a pretzel over this. Le Pen did not gain any personal financial benefit and they even admitted this. Only that her party “gained financial benefit”. And we are to believe Macron conducts himself above board…? The courts must be stuffed with socialists.
The Brits arrest citizens who are silently praying yet have ignored the Grooming Gangs that molest underage girls. The gangs are composed of Pakistani men and the police in many instances have overlooked what’s going. The Pakistanis control no go areas in the northern industrial cities. Not that it’s national news the government has started to investigate these groups.
My typo.. the sentence should read “now” vice “not”.
